Our Roots

Our story began in 1946 when Lewis and Sophie Fras purchased the property we still use today. At the time, it was mostly brush and swamp land. With a lot of hard work, they cleared the land, turned the swamps into two ponds, and prepared the sandy soil for planting.

With a background in fruit farming, Lewis planted a small orchard with apples and tart cherries, along with raspberries and strawberries. He also added rows of evergreens, starting with Scotch and White Pine and Norway Spruce, and later expanding to include Douglas and Concolor Fir and Blue Spruce.

Of their four sons, Fred was the one who stayed involved with the farm. In 1990, he bought the property from the rest of the family. Today, Fred’s son John and grandchildren J.T. and Jade continue the family tradition, caring for the land that started it all.
